What sets this county apart is how recently most of it was built. The median home dates to 1999, only 22% are rented (ACS 2019-23), and much of the housing sits in subdivisions laid out between the Olentangy River, Alum Creek and the two lakes. Younger houses mean fewer crumbling foundations and more ants, wasps and mice working the edges of mulch beds and farm fields.
Why Olentangy and Alum Creek subdivisions see ants and wasps
A 1999 median build year puts the typical Delaware County house in its late twenties. That is young for a foundation and old enough for the landscaping to have matured. Mulch beds, irrigated lawns and deck posts hand odorous house ants and carpenter ants the moisture and soft wood they want beside the walls.
Streams and lakeshore lots add water and cover. Paper wasps start nests under soffits and deck rails in spring, and yellow jackets like voids in retaining walls and old mulch. If you see wasps flying in and out of one hole, stay a safe distance from the nest and call us instead of spraying at it.

Pest control services Delaware County homeowners ask about

Backing onto Alum Creek or a field edge?
Tell us which side of the county you are on and what you have seen. Lakeside lots and field-edge lots get different questions, and we plan the 24 mile trip from Dunning Rd around them.

Farm fields between the suburbs: when mice come in
Delaware County still has working cropland sitting between its newer neighborhoods. After harvest and the first cold nights, house mice and deer mice shift toward warm garages and utility chases. A mouse can pass through a gap of about half an inch, and a finished house has plenty of pipe and wire penetrations that size.
Sealing those entry points, called exclusion, matters more than traps alone. Our notes on finding mouse entry points explain what to look for around a garage door and a gas line.

Alum Creek Lake, Delaware Lake and the farms between them
Alum Creek Lake holds about 3,387 acres of water, and Alum Creek State Park surrounds it with 4,630 acres of land. Delaware State Park sits on the other reservoir, Delaware Lake, on the Olentangy River. Shorelines mean shade, wet leaf litter and standing water, which suit mosquitoes in summer and give wasps and yellow jackets docks, shelters and sheds to build in.
The county was formed in 1808 and covers 457 square miles. The 2022 USDA Census of Agriculture still counted 728 farms on about 130,900 acres, so field edges sit close to finished houses in many places. If your lot backs onto the park or a field, we look at dock and shed corners in July and at the garage door seal and utility gaps before October.
How we schedule a county 40 minutes from Dunning Rd
Tell us your town and what you are seeing when you call. Distance is the main thing that shapes a booking here, so same-day stops depend on the schedule that day, and a nest problem can sometimes move up the list. You will usually reach Mr. Boyde himself.
On the visit we ask about allergies, pets and children, inspect, treat according to label directions, and give you the re-entry time from the label. If the plan calls for a return visit, we say so before we leave. The county seat has its own page for pest control in Delaware, OH, and we also cover Powell and Sunbury.
Delaware County towns we serve, from Powell to Ashley
We have worked central Ohio since 1990, mostly from the east side, and Delaware County is one of the counties we cover to the north. The towns with their own pages are Delaware, Powell, Shawnee Hills, Sunbury, Galena, Ostrander and Ashley.
The county is wide and the drive from Dunning Rd is 24 miles to its edge, so give us the town and the road when you call. That lets us plan the trip and ask the right questions about the house or the farm building.

Pest control in Delaware County: common questions
Do you serve all of Delaware County or just the city of Delaware?
We take calls across the county, including Powell, Sunbury, Galena, Ostrander and Ashley. The trip from Dunning Rd is about 40 minutes, so tell us your town and the problem when you call and we will work out the first available visit. Same-day stops happen only when the schedule allows.
What pests are most common in Delaware County subdivisions?
Ants and wasps lead in summer, and mice lead from October on. Many homes here were built around 1999, so the usual causes are mulch against siding, soffits that collect wasp nests, and small gaps where utilities enter the garage. Spiders and stink bugs come indoors in fall as well.
Can you treat a wasp nest near a lake or creek lot?
Yes, nest removal is routine, including paper wasp nests under decks and eaves. Keep children and pets away and stay a safe distance from the nest until we arrive. Lakeside and creek lots can have several nests, so we check the whole exterior instead of one spot.
Is a recurring plan worth it for a newer Delaware County house?
Often yes, since a long drive makes repeat emergency calls less convenient. Follow-up visits can run biweekly, monthly, bimonthly or as needed, and the pest and the home decide which. A one-time visit is also available, and you can switch to a plan later.
