New Albany is a planned community. Georgian brick, painted wood trim and painted wood fencing set the look, the median home went up around 2005, and the Census survey (ACS 2019-23) shows only about 11% rented. It also sits beside a business park where Intel is building chip plants on the Licking County side. Between the houses and the offices, ants, wasps, carpenter bees and the odd mouse keep us busy.
Georgian trim, wood fencing and carpenter bees in New Albany
A lot of New Albany's character comes from painted wood: trim, columns, cupolas, shutters and long runs of fencing. Wood that is old enough to weather and has bare patches is exactly what carpenter bees look for. They bore a neat round hole, roughly finger width, and leave coarse sawdust underneath.
The holes do damage over time as the galleries extend. Our guide to carpenter bee holes in a deck shows what to look for. Painting or sealing bare wood afterward matters as much as the treatment.

Johnstown Road, Market Square and the creeks: how New Albany is laid out
New Albany lies about 15 miles northeast of Columbus, mostly in Franklin County with a small part in Licking County. The town was founded in 1837 and incorporated in 1856, and today the city covers about 16.8 square miles (Wikipedia). U.S. Route 62, called Johnstown Road, is one of the main roads meeting at the center, and State Route 161 connects to Interstate 270.
Blacklick Creek crosses the east end, and the city sits in the headwaters of Rocky Fork, fed by Rose Run and Sugar Run. Market Square in the center holds businesses and a Columbus Metropolitan Library branch, and Bevelhymer Park lies in the north-central section. The creeks mean damp ground and mosquitoes, and a city this wide means the drive varies, so tell us which side of town you are on.
Construction near the Licking County line and what it stirs up
Intel's Ohio One campus is going up in the Licking County part of the New Albany International Business Park, roughly six miles from the village center, according to the city. Big earthmoving projects disturb ground that rodents and insects have used for years.
Pests move to the nearest shelter, so neighborhoods and buildings along a construction edge sometimes see more mice. If you see droppings or hear scratching near a finished building, call early, because mice settle in fast once they find a warm wall.

Getting to New Albany from the east side shop
Count on roughly 20 minutes of driving from Dunning Rd, which puts New Albany on a planned route. Share the address and a description, and we will name the first opening. Reaching you the same day happens when the schedule allows.
We ask about allergies, pets and kids before anything else. Then we inspect the roofline, trim, foundation and landscaping, and treat the cracks, crevices and perimeter where insects get in, following label directions. At a business, we also leave notes on what was found and done.

New Albany's business park and the east side run
We have worked central Ohio since 1990, and the trip to New Albany is about 20 minutes from Dunning Rd, on the same eastern run as Gahanna, Jersey and Pataskala. A planned community of owner-occupied houses with a business park beside it means homes and offices can share one route, so say on the phone which one you are calling about.
Pest control in New Albany: common questions
How soon can Boydes get to New Albany from northeast Columbus?
New Albany sits about 13 miles and 20 minutes from Dunning Rd, and the city spreads across roughly 16.8 square miles, so the exact address matters. The day's route sets the timing, and a quicker stop is possible only if the schedule allows. Phone early with your address and symptoms, and we will say straight out whether it is today or the next opening.
Why do ants and wasps show up around newer New Albany homes?
Large homes with deep landscaping and many roof peaks give both insects plenty to work with. Ants follow irrigation and mulch to the brick or slab, and wasps build in cupolas, porticos and under tall eaves where they are hard to see from the ground. We treat the perimeter and remove the nest.
Will my wood trim and fencing in New Albany get carpenter bees?
Bare or weathered wood is the target, so painted trim with worn spots and older fencing are at risk. We treat the holes and the surrounding wood, then advise painting or sealing bare patches. Nothing makes wood immune, so expect to check the same spots again each spring.
Do you offer one-time service in New Albany, or only contracts?
Both are on the menu. A wasp nest or a one-off ant trail is a single visit, with no contract needed afterward. With only 11% of New Albany homes rented, many owners of large homes prefer recurring visits through the seasons: monthly, bimonthly or as needed. We price by pest and by how far the problem has spread, and explain it before starting.
Can you service an office or small business in the New Albany business park?
Yes. Commercial work is part of what we do, offices and shared buildings included. Visits run at whatever interval the building needs, and each one comes with written notes on findings and treatment. Scope and price depend on the building and the pest, so we begin with a walk-through and give the price first.
